Sri Lanka Cloves (Syzygium aromaticum) grows in the tropical climates and is harvested by picking the flower buds before they are pink. After wards it is left to dry until they lose two thirds of their weight and turns into brown. Notably it is a spice that has gained a sturdy reputation for its ability to quickly enliven a dish as well as for its diverse array of medicinal properties. Best used in its plump, bud form, it has a fresh and heady aroma and is rich in vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids and antimicrobial properties. Clove is the richest organic source of antioxidants known to man and is often put to good use in boosting overall well-being.


Cloves have a fragrant odor and sharp, sweet taste that can instantly flavor any dish. It works well with other spices such as Ceylon cinnamon, nutmeg and it could balance the flavor adding a bit of bitterness too. An oil from the clove tree’s buds and stem is used to flavor desserts and candies.     Cloves   are used chiefly in cooking and baking. It is uses in popular spice blends such as Garam Masala, Chinese five-spice, allspice and in a variety of other blends. It is used in desserts, baked goods, confectionary items and in plenty of savory dishes such as curries, marinades and sauces. It is also used as an additive and preservative in the food and beverages industry.


Sri Lanka Cloves are medicinal and can be used in the pharmaceutical industry. It is used in dental products due to its constituent of ‘eugenol’ that treats toothaches and mouth odor. It is primarily used in Ayurvedic medicine especially in oils, balms, and in treating oral problems.
